Andaman & Nicobar Island

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a group of islands at the southeastern edge of the Bay of Bengal, located in the Indian Ocean. They are part of the Union Territory of India and consist of two distinct groups of islands – the Andaman Islands and the Nicobar Islands.

Geography:

  • Andaman Islands: The northern group, closer to the mainland, comprises around 550 islands, islets, and rocks. The major islands include North Andaman, Middle Andaman, and South Andaman.
  • Nicobar Islands: The southern group, located farther away, consists of 22 main islands. The major ones include Car Nicobar, Great Nicobar, and Little Andaman.

Capital:

The capital of the Union Territory is Port Blair, which is located on South Andaman Island.

Population:

The population is diverse, with various ethnic groups, including the indigenous tribes. The Great Andamanese, Onge, Jarawa, Nicobarese, and Sentinalese are some of the indigenous communities.
